1. Remove the clutter
When living in your home over the years, you may find that you have collected several items or some positions may not be in the right place. Your objective is to reduce the clutter and make your home as spacious as possible.
- Closets – make sure you have half-empty closets.
- Storage is something every buyer is looking for and can never have enough. Remove as much as you can from your closets and organise the remaining items neatly in the closets.
- Serious buyers will unfortunately snoop, mainly to see if they can fit their items in available closets and storage
- Old and Junk Items – Noting should be laying around.
- Organise items used and remove the unused. Over time you may have collected items just in-case one day you may need them. however, they just sit there collecting dust.
- Remove any item that does not have a meaningful use and remove any clutter. For example, old bbq’s, bikes, fridges, unused gardening tools etc…
- Your objective is to remove anything that hasn’t been used or will not be used. This could be an opportunity to have a sale and obtain some extra cash

- Your objective in the kitchen is to make everything clean and functional. All your appliance needs to appear working, clean, and operational.
- Old appliances may reduce the value of your home by a few thousand dollars, and to replace them may cost you half of what prospects home buyers may expect
- Cabinets
- Make sure to clean your cabinets. If necessary, consider painting the cabinets to natural fresh colours
3. Depersonalise your home
One of the most important things to do when selling your home is to depersonalise your home. Take the home out of your house.
- Remove the more personal stuff in your home, this may include personal family photos, memorabilia, collectables, and or personal keepsakes.
- Try to make your home a canvas for prospective buyers to imagine how they would live their lives in your home
4. First Impressions, always be ready to show
Your home needs to be “show-ready” at all times, both within the house and the exterior of the home as well. Most buyers have already purchased your home before they walked through the door. You need to make sure they feel welcome, feel warm and safe as they approach your home.
- Consider planting fresh colourful flowers, tidy up the landscaping and keep a bright appears externally.
- Internally, use music and fresh smells to keep visitors feeling homely.
- Remove any dog food, or cat food. Remove anything that may not smell right, not everyone is a dog or a car lover
5. Finally, get to know your Real Estate Agent
Hiring the wrong agent to represent you and your family home may be a secrete sale killer. Make sure you have the right person for the job, and who is informed of your area and your needs.
